Bowling Club Flag Unfurling by Captain Joan Doyle and Centenary Book Launch
Our Unfurling Day was an absolutely fabulous day for so many reasons!
Firstly, because the sun shone and we could feel the heat as we stood in those beautiful, manicured grounds that is Clontarf Lawn Bowling Club!
Secondly, the green looked resplendent in the sun as did the surrounds, made pristine by our own club members so that this day could be perfect!
Thirdly, because this was our day; the perfect day for our Captain for 2026, Joan Doyle, to step forward with her smile, as with all our smiles – dazzling in the sun – to declare the start of the 2026 season: our return to our beloved grass!
And so we unfurled our flag, this first year of our second century as a club; remembering as it was being raised, everyone who in every year of the century before, had raised it with cheer and applause!
But what a celebration we had in the clubhouse! Great food, great banter and great craic!
And so, at the start of our new century of being, we launched our history of the previous century – 100 Years of Bowling at Clontarf.
We may have unfurled our flag of fabric, but no one could doubt that, as colleagues and friends, we are the living fabric that is Clontarf Bowling Club!
Let the games begin!
