The Midweekers’ Captains Day – The 58th Season.
The 58th season of the Midweekers’ Golf Society concluded on Wednesday 27th April in glorious sunshine with 153 members competing for the Midweekers Captain’s (Michael Foley) prize.
As Captain Michael made his entrance to the lounge for the evening dinner he was greeted with a fanfare of  “We Will  Rock You” by Queen.
130 members then enjoyed an excellent meal before the eagerly awaited presentation of prizes.
The big winners on the day were Robert Redmond with a score of 35 points over the 15 hole course, winning on the back nine from Christy Cameron, Tom Hayes and Fearghal Sullivan to claim the Captain’s Prize.
Golfer of the year (The Gerry Walsh Trophy ) could not have been closer this year; Noel Hickey was victorious winning by the narrowest of margins from Tony Stanley.
The Junior Section benefited on the evening from the proceeds of an impromptu auction when a rather special bottle of wine was discovered and rescued from entering  the “Pickie out” section. This very desirable bottle of Chateau Lynch-Bages, Pauillac, Grand Cru Classe, 2000 was auctioned and the winning bid of €300 was very kindly submitted by Con Walsh.
Con was congratulated and thanked by all for his generous offer and ultimately his great support to the Junior Section.
In conclusion Captain Michael  announced Rossa Bunworth as the Midweekers’ Captain for 2023 and this was received with enthusiastic applause by all.
The Midweekers will return on Wednesday 4th January 2023.
