Friday Friends play in Tri-Nations golf event in Stackstown
Dublin was buzzing with excitement as it played host to their first-ever Tri-Nations event, where England & Wales Disabled Golf Associations brought their teams to Ireland for an epic showdown with the Disabled Ireland Golf Association (DIGA)! This groundbreaking event isn’t just about competition; it’s a celebration of international friendship and the growing opportunities for disabled golfers everywhere.
Over three action-packed days at the stunning Stackstown Golf Club, the event kicked off with a Practice/Stableford competition on Day 1 Sunday the 8th of September, followed by thrilling Matchplay on Day 2, and Singles matches on Day 3.
As part of the Practice/Stableford competition on Day 1, Special Olympics Ireland were also asked to invite some SO Golfers. SO Golfers could opt to play in the 9 hole or 18 hole competition. We are unsure how they got selected but two of our Friday Friends were invited to take part and accepted the offer. David McGinn (Five-Day Member, Clontarf) and Daniel O’Brien both played in the 18 hole competition.
Both had a great day and had the pleasure of playing with two of the Irish Team who were playing in the Disabled Ireland Golf Tri-Nations Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. Paul Kelly, (Armagh Golf Club) and Paul Ferguson (Ballyliffen Golf Club). Our two International Representatives were not only fantastic golfers but great company for our two Friday Friends and showing patience which was required on occasion.
Post the golf, the lads had a wonderful evening in the Clubhouse. Stackstown Golf Club were fantastic with the lads.
Special thanks to:
David Brennan (Men’s Captain), Dee O’Regan (Ladies Captain) for their warm welcome to Stackstown Golf Club, Club Member Jackie who accompanied us on our round and guided us around the course, Paul Kelly and Paul Ferguson for their company, Padraig Harrington for his time and Special Olympics Ireland for including David and Daniel.
