- Social Bowling (Tuesday and Fridays) to end on Friday 17th October 2025.
The Social Bowling on Tuesdays and Fridays in Clontarf will end on Friday 17th October 2025.
- Closure of the Bowling Green.
The Bowling Green will remain open, hopefully into November, pending the advice of the Greens’ Superintendent Daragh about when it needs to be closed
- SportsLink Social Bowling (Mondays 11am to 1pm).
The Social Bowling in SportsLink, for the Winter months, is organised by Brendan Darcy, Competitions Secretary. It takes place on Monday mornings from 11am to 1pm. The poll will go out each weekend on the Social Bowling WhatsApp Group Chat. Players should arrive early and be ready to start at 11am. The cost is €4.
- Borrowing Club Bowls
Bowls should not be removed from the Club Pavilion after 17th October 2025. New members, who are planning to play in SportsLink regularly may make an arrangement to borrow bowls. Please contact me for further information.
- ILB Winter Leagues: Saturday League and Thursday (over 55s) League 2025/2026.
The Winter Leagues fixtures will be available on ILB website at (irishlawnbowls.ie) soon. The matches are expected to start in the middle of October (Thursday Leagues (Vets) and Saturday Leagues). If you have not already ‘signed up’ and you wish to be included in the panel to play in the Winter Leagues, please let Captain Aidan know directly or email or text me and I will pass your details on to the team managers. The Winter League team managers are: Saturday- Aidan Foy and Gerry McCarthy and Thursday- Helen Fay and Lorcan Caulfield.
Players in the league teams pay €4 each when they play a home game in SportsLink. The money will be collected by the manager of the team and passed to Ann O Reilly for lodgement to meet the cost of hiring the SportsLink green.
- Lord Mayors Cup – 2nd November 2025.
The date for the Lord Mayor’s cup has been rescheduled to Sunday 2nd of November 2025. It is planned that the competition will be open to all bowling clubs. At present, the Committee is checking the level of interest in the competition before finalising the details and format of the event. There will be more news later.
- Coaches needed.
Are you interested in coaching? It is anticipated that the ILB will run a coaching course during the Winter Season. To be eligible for the course you should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience playing competitive bowls. Our club needs qualified coaches to help new members and to meet the strong desire of members for more training and development. You can find out more information on the ILB website at Coach Course 2025 – ILB. Places on the courses can be limited so please let me know if you are interested so that we can push for priority placement for our members.
- Dates for your diary
Below are some dates for your diary. Further information will be available nearer the time.
- The ILB annual Dinner and presentation of prizes- Saturday 1st of November, 2025 in Ierne Bowling Club.
- The Bowling Captain’s Dinner and presentation of prizes to the Club Competitions winners – Friday 14th of November 2024.
- The Centenary Arts and Crafts and Photography Exhibition– Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd of November 2025
- Social Bowling end of season ‘get together’- 3rd December 2025 at 3pm.
- Expressions of interest – visit to New York in September 2026.
The Bowling Club has been invited to visit New York Lawn Bowling Club in 2026 as part of NYLBC Programme for their Centenary Year. Ideas for the 7-day trip from 22nd Sept 2026 approx. include a tournament competition with NYLBC (in Central Park), a friendly match in a second Bowling Club in the New Jersey area and plenty of time for sightseeing. NYLBC will host a dinner for CBC on one of the nights. Before deciding if it would be feasible to accept the invitation, there are a lot of details to be worked out including the cost of the trip, travel arrangements, accommodation etc. Indicative costs provided by GTI Travel for the 7-day trip suggest a cost of €3,000 per person. This includes flights, accommodation in a hotel in Upper Manhattan and transport to and from the Airport. There would be a supplement for a single room. This costing is very preliminary. The final costs would be determined by the numbers travelling. The first step is to assess if members are interested in participating in the trip. Partners are welcome too. If you think you might be interested, please sign up on the sheet in the Bowling Pavilion or WhatsApp or phone Gerry Doyle 0872503502. Please ‘sign up’ or reply to Gerry by 31st of October, 2025.
